Malampuzha Dam

MALAMPUZHA DAM Overview of Malampuzha Dam Malampuzha Dam Malampuzha Dam is the  biggest reservoir in Kerala, located in Palakkad district, in South India, It's surrounded by the scenic hills of the western ghats on all side. Malampuzha Dam is a combination of a masonry dam with a length of 1849 meters and an earthen dam with a height of 220 meters. The dam is 355 feet high and crosses the Malampuzha River, Which a tributary of Bharathapuzha which is Kerala's second-largest  river.  The dam is owned by Irrigation Department. The water released for Irrigation is used for power generation is at 11 kV and water distribution for drinking purposes in the nearby areas while the canal systems are helps. The Malampuzha project was started on 27 March 1949 by the Public Works Minister, Sri M, Bhaktavatsalam. During the time of its initiation  and on 9 0ct 1955 the Tamilnadu Chief Minister, Sri. K Kamaraj inaugurated the dam, the reservoir has a capacity of 8000 cubics
